Geiger receives Environmental Leadership Award

Lewiston, Maine based distributor, Geiger, received the Environmental Leadership Award by the Maine Institute for Family-Owned Business.

At its 25th anniversary gala, the judges praised the company’s 100% carbon neutral shipping and its offsetting paper usage by planting trees. As part of its 2017 headquarters overhaul, it installed 696 solar panels, the largest business array in the state, which general 100% of firm’s annual electricity usage.

Solar power eliminates approximately 320,000 pounds of carbon emissions.  UPS certified Geiger mitigated 2,514,724 pounds of carbon emissions in 2018.  Those savings will continue – and grow – year after year.

“As a family-owned company we can be concerned about more than earning profits," Gene Geiger, board chair, noted in his acceptance remarks. "We have a responsibility to our community and our planet. We are committed to sustainable practices. At the same time, we have to do more. We all have to do more.”
